Notes on Prayer for seminar:
8-17-04
The planet and the entire physical world were designed for faith in God and the believer (Genesis 1 and 2nd chapter, Psalm 82:1-8, Psalm 115:16, Psalm 8:6).
Prayer and the will of God
Once you discover something is the will of God, pray like crazy.
What specifically are you asking for? Are you closer to believing that you will get it?
8-16-04
I pray, pray, pray until I believe that God will do a thing for me, with me and through me. My goal in prayer is to believe (me believing is critical) that God will do what I am praying about or what I want or desire.
Prayer is like a spiritual walk to a heavenly trunk of provision. The trunk is mine, unlocked and ready for me. However, there is only one way to access and manifest its contents. I must take the little spiritual walk/journey of prayer and retrieve my provision.
Prayer is about getting that thing into your heart and getting your heart into that thing! Therefore prayer is actually a matter concerning your heart and your Father (I Sam. 14:6-7, Phil. 1:7, Eph. 3:10, Romans 10:10, Jeremiah 17:7-10, Proverbs 4:23, Psalm 84:5, Psalm 37:4, II Corinth. 10:7
The type of prayer that I am primarily addressing is personal prayer or your own private prayers to God in your behalf related to your desires, needs and interests. Much of what I am saying can be applied universally. I am attempting to encourage the believer in the truth that praying to God for yourself works as well as praying to God in the behalf of others (intercessory prayers).
Getting to know God through prayer
a. The voice of God
1. The Holy Spirit-Acts 16:6-10, Acts 27:10-31, Daniel 2:16-23, 28; Genesis 24:1
a. “what is God is saying to you” starts with “what are you praying to Him about”. Or “what is someone praying to Him about concerning you”. He speaks through that device.
b. Being led by God through prayer-Psalm 23:1-6
Daniel 2:16-23, Esther 4:1-17
Trusting your prayers
Confiding in your prayers
Believing in your prayers
God’s will and prayer
What God wills is what God wants. Therefore I can say “what God wills for me is what God wants for me”. Having said this I realize that the Old and New Testament is God’s Old and New want for me. I accept and embrace the idea that what God wants for me is better than what I could ever want for myself. I trust the fact that His want for me is actually the best thing that could ever occur in my life. I relax and am at peace. I trust His want for me to be better than my want for myself. “What do you ‘want’ God for my life” and “what is your ‘want’ for my life” is no longer a threatening or intimidating position. I am free to trust His want for me. I am free from fear. Fear has no breeding ground or foothold in our (God and I) relationship first and then in my relationship with my brothers in the Lord (I John 1:5, I John 4:17-21). This builds the solid infrastructure for the best type of praying (I John 5:14-15). I am His to have as He wants. There is a Holy alliance that is established. There is unparalleled, unmitigated agreement between my God and me. There is a mutual uninhibited flow between the Father and His sons (the family of God and me). It is through consistent and diligent prayer and study of His Word that I discover His will thoroughly and know it intimately.
Examining the words of Jesus as He prayed-Luke 22:42-44 vs. 42
3 times-“Not my will but thy will be done. Not my will but thy will be done. Not my will but thy will be done. Matt. 26:39, 42, John 17:1-26; 18:1; Luke 23:46,
Strength in prayer through believing words- Daniel 10:12, Luke 22:42-44, Psalm 103:20, Psalm 19:14, Hebrews 10:19-23, Matt. 12:34-37-justified and condemned
